Profile: Oliver Kahn

Oliver KahnOliver Kahn born on June 15, 1969 at Karlsruhe is one of the greatest goalkeepers the game has seen. He is the only goalkeeper that won the Golden Ball award (arguably the most coveted individual trophy in the world game) in 2002 at Korea/Japan.

Germany went far in 2002 because of the spectacular and brilliant play of Kahn. During the game against United States, he stopped everything the team threw at him.

His value to Germany’s ambitions in the Far East was summed up by coach Rudi Voller immediately after the 33-year-old had repelled everything the United States could throw at him during the quarter-final.

He started his goalkeeping career at the age of six in 1975 with hometown club Karlsruhe.
Oliver KahnKahn worked extremely hard climbing all the way to his Bunderslige debut in 1990 until he signed a German goalkeeper record of £1.6million with Bayern Munich in 1994. His record contract was worth the money by helping the team win numerous trophies.

By 1998 after the World Cup in France he became the number 1 goalkeeper which eventually led to 2002’s spectacular play.

His fiery temperament and guilty of stupid fouls time and again is a sight to behold on the field which made the fan’s love him more.

Mr. Reliable as everyone know him by will be needed come the competition in June 2006 if Germany is again to make it far in the tournament.
