World Cup 06: Germany

In this series of posts we shall look at each country’s current squad who will most likely see action during the games itself. We continue with Germany. The full archive is found here.

Projected Lineup: Oliver Kahn, Arne Friedrich, Robert Huth, Marcell Jansen, Per Mertesacker, Michael Ballack, Bernd Schneider, Torsten Frings, Sebastien Deisler, Miroslav Klose and Lucas Podolski

Other Players: Jens Lehmann, Timo Hildebrand, Philip Lahm, Christoph Metselder, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Fabian, Ernst, Sebastian Kehl, Tim Borowski, Gerald Asamoah

It will be interesting to see who will be the goalkeeper for Germany in the competition. We could look back and remember the spectacular year of Oliver Kahn that almost led the team to World Cup title 2002. Today, this position is being fought by both Oliver and Lehmann.

We should also expect a lot from midfielder sensation Michael Ballack who missed the game against Brazil in Cup 2002 due to a yellow flag. The German’s home field advantage could give them another player on the field. They may not be strong in defense as they used to be, but their morale is expected to be at the highest level.

Watch out for Germany. They are a team of gladiators playing together with the crowd. You can see in this chart (World Cup Team & Standings) the list of teams and groups they belong to.
