Best Remembered

George Best Who could deny him the title as the best and finest footballer to come out of the British Isle? The guy whom the press referred to as the “fifth Beatle” made his debut with United’s senior side in 1963 at the age of 17. Five years later he won both the European Player of the Year and Football Writer’s Player of the year awards.

His unbelievable skills at a very young age while playing for Manchester United was a great display of pace, strength, field vision and deadly shots coupled by his capability of rising above the greatest events.

Sadly though, I am in total disappointment how could life give such fortune to a player as ungrateful as he is? For all eternity people will not regard him as the player to emulate in a positive way rather than a player not to emulate once stardom has reached.

It is so disgusting how he wasted one of the greatest football talents ever seen in exchange for the devils playground. £20,000 in cash scattered on bed together with the earth’s reigning beauty pageant titlist is not how you say thanks to all that had been given to you.

He will be best remembered as — womanizer, rascal, drunkard, booze, fast cars, squanderer.

He is a good reminder for all the young players out there to learn the value of reaching their full potential, stay there and leave on a positive note.

Best’s biographer says, “The only tragedy George Best has to confront is that he will never know how good he could have been,”.

On the contrary, I would regard him as a national treasure; after all, seldom do we see people like him who can serve as warning for all ages to come.
