It’s Better for Lando Donovan to Play in US than Ride the Bench in Europe
Lando Donovan insists he could not leave American hamburgers, the beach, sun and women to play in Europe, and says he could become a better player but not a better person, because of the misery he shall suffer. I would understand playing far from home is difficult and being homesick is indeed miserable especially for an extended period of time.
Is that really the case? If Lando Donovan plays like a superstar in Europe he will feel at home as he becomes the center of attention, but if he rides the bench often, he will indeed feel homesick. Unlike in Los Angeles Galaxy where he is the most dominant player, he would struggle in Europe when playing with top flight footballers. I don’t think Lando would agree that his pathetic $ 900,000.00 salary in the US is more than enough than what he craves for.
In a story from Yahoo, Lando doesn’t close the prospect of playing in Europe and says: Spain or England might fit my style but the last time I checked there weren’t any teams knocking on the door to get me and secondly I’m not going anywhere for a while.
Of course Lando isn’t going anywhere for a while because chances are he will be benched. He felt what it was like to play in the FIFA World Cup against the top players in the world, same players he will be playing in Europe against.
The best thing Lando could do today is to make the most out of his stint and playing time in US and see if he could play a major role in Europe before he transfers.

Does Donovan have to sit on the bench? There are quality leagues outside of the Top Five in which he could gain valuable playing experience: Scotland, for example, or Belgium, Holland, Portugal – even Switzerland.
Donovan can’t expect to cross the Atlantic, especially given his history, and be treated like the messiah. That will happen only in America, at least until he proves himself on a stage bigger than MLS.
Donovan, please get out of MLS , IT’S pathetic to play in the baby league
Are there any European clubs interested in Donovan at all?
Titan — You’re right, but Donovan hasn’t mentioned any quality leagues outside the top ones and most likely he has his sights set there.
Jonathan — Yeah, I agree its a baby league, though recently they managed to grow into a toddler.
Victoria — Haven’t heard of any European clubs right now keen on him, because if there were he should not be hard to snatch with the money flying around that space.
