Roy Keane Finds Out the Difference Between a Player and a Manager the Hard Way

Roy Keane’s Sunderland enjoyed first blood against Ipswich at Portman Road but a series of costly errors saw their opponents score three goals finishing 3 – 1. Roy publicly admits that he is hurting so much because they made a few defensive lapses and the other team was quick to capitalize. He admits that losing as a manager was more difficult than losing as a player.

It actually depends on how you lose, Roy Keane is a great player but he isn’t going to be blamed for a loss the way Ronaldinho or Ronaldo of Brazil is. Unlike today as a manager, eyes and criticism will focus on him and how he calls the plays defensively and offensively. A loss is like letting down his team and players. Roy Keane is not yet in the league of Eriksson where a loss would be blamed on the players’ performance and not on the manager. Roy Keane is new and still a long way from being a world class manager (article here). He needs to prove himself and losses like this would definitely hurt.
